I've always liked this picture and have frequently tried to imitate it.  I send a copy of whenever I do one to Nicolas, but I never seem to get one as good as this.  This was taken at the Kintail hut, which the hut one day's walk north of the Loch Maree Hut.

Nicolas  has done some serious tramping in New Zealand and  I met him on Stewart Island.  I got to know him much better when he and his girlfriend, Silvia, came to visit me in the U.S.  In the ensuing years I've spent a lot of time with them in Switzerland and always enjoy my stays there.  They will make me frog legs and rabbit steaks and make sure that I get to try horse.  "Keep telling yourself it's beef, keep telling yourself it's beef" he told me.  They also keep me well fed with some of the fine cheeses in Switzerland.  It's always a good time with them.
